Politics itself means activities aimed at improving someone’s status or increasing power within an organization. But generally, the kind of politics we are confronted with on a daily basis is just bad news which is filled with the most painful words like Terror, Protest, War, Attack, Racism, Radicalism, and the like. That is why I have torn apart some newspaper extracts and put them inside the cups that are symbols of communications and meet-ups but all communications might result in Political issues. Or they are affected by the café’s TV which is on or people surrounded by you or the atmosphere you are in. Even if not, who you are and what you are doing are all influenced by the politics of where you live no matter how much you care about political issues. Anyway, I have been collecting these cups for months from Cafes I am used to meeting my friends in. This is to show how simple and beautiful life can be, exactly like the “Smiley Faces” that some waitresses draw on our cups but the reality is Politics is always a noisy distraction that overshadows all our conversations even when we are sitting in a café chatting with friends. We cannot run away from it. Politics is here with us, always…

 * My work is an Installation consisting of around 50 cups that I have been collecting for some months (2016 & 2017) when I meet my friends in a café. These cups are filled by political issues which are printed on daily newspapers. Besides, it has been tried to focus more on the words like Protest, Terror, War, Attack and the other terrifying ones in order to show how two contrastive feelings (meeting a friend, and facing war, protest and other issues) can influence our lives, and make us feel the pain more than the joy of being together.
